Glasgow - City of Sculpture
By Gary Nisbet
H & A Heinzeller
(fl. c.1956-)

A firm of wood sculptors ("Holzbildhauer") founded by the brothers Hans and Adolph Heinzeller; they are based at Dorfstrasse 18, Oberammergau, Bavaria, "the village of woodcarvers".

They specialize in producing small figures, chess pieces and religious subjects, such as statues of the Madonna and the Saints.

For Glasgow, they carved the Wooden Figures on the gothic organ gallery and other wood carvings in St Teresa of Lisieux RC Church, 86 Saracen Street (c. 1956-60).

Elsewhere in Britain, they were commissioned to carve the Crib Figures for the Nativity group in Westminster Abbey, London (2005).
